#MicroblogMonday #12 – A Breather

Do you ever hit that point where life just feels so overwhelming that you need to take a step back to evaluate and breathe?

I recently did, and if you follow this blog at all, then you’ll now that the blog took the biggest hit.

microblogmonday-a-breather

Life hasn’t been overwhelming in a negative sense. In fact, it’s been the complete opposite. But with the photography season picking up and work being quite busy, I needed to step back and re-focus. I needed to think about my goals and look at time management. I needed to find ways to devote time all of the things I love, without over extending myself and burning out.

So that’s exactly what I did. I stepped back and took a breather.

And in taking this breather, I realized that the only person putting the pressure on me, was me. And what I found was that I missed writing. I missed my little corner of the web. And while it was the first to be pushed to the back, I’ve also realized it probably takes up the least amount of time in my day, especially if I pre-plan my content.

My photography takes up a good bit of my free time, and I always make time for it because I love it.

This breather allowed me to realize that this blog is an extension of me and I need to make time for this too. It’s also allowed me to refocus and recharge, and I’m ready to write.

Have you ever just needed to step back and take a breather?

#MicroblogMonday #11 – Las Vegas

It’s been a couple of weeks since I wrote anything for #MicroblogMonday. Not for lack of wanting too, or lost interest, but purely because I’ve been busy prepping for vacation.

And as this post goes live, I’ll be on a plane. Perhaps by the time you read it, I’ll be in sunny Las Vegas.

I always find that leading up to vacation, when I should be winding down, I’m usually the opposite. I’m running in a million different directions, trying to make sure everything is in it’s place before I go. I want order. Maybe it’s a touch of OCD?

But either way, as you read this, I’m waving to you from the sunny Las Vegas strip. Where we are indulging in some good drinks, some gambling, some R&R, and most importantly, wedding planning.

I’ll be posting throughout the week on Instagram, so make sure to follow there for live up to the minute updates.

And don’t worry – I have things scheduled to go live throughout the week. So it will be like I never left!

#Microblog Monday #10: Spring Ahead

It seems like Daylight Savings comes earlier and earlier every year. Wasn’t it always closer to the end of March/beginning of April?

This year, as everyone knows, it was this past weekend. And after the winter we’ve had, I’m definitely not complaining. Sure, losing an hour of sleep is hard. Especially for those who really love their sleep. Not too mention, it completely screws up my internal clock for a solid week.

But spring ahead always provides us with hope. That after such a horrible winter, we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Spring is coming.

My favorite part of spring ahead? The longer days. Which I’m guessing is everyone’s favorite part. I love seeing the sun out until 7 at night. I love being able to leave the gym, and still have it bright out. I love knowing that once the snow melts, we can be outside well into the evening.

We made it through one hell of a winter. We made it to Daylight Savings. And now, we just wait as the temperatures begin to climb and we finally reach out beautiful New England spring.

#MicroblogMonday #9 – March: In Like a Lion

March. In like a lion, out like a lamb. I sure hope that’s true.

Yesterday was the first day of March. After one hell of a February (can we say over 7 feet of snow and bitter cold?), seeing March 1 on the calendar was a welcome sight.

I waited for Sunday all week. That might sound silly, especially since it marks the end of the weekend. But it was supposed to be in the mid-thirties, and sunny. At least that’s what the weather apps and reporters were saying. They also were talking about more snow, but that was going to be overnight, not during the day.

What was supposed to be a sun-filled March day, turned into a gray, cold, this feels like January day. With snow flurries starting by mid-afternoon.

The last day of February felt more like an early spring day than the first day of March.

But like the quote above, March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb. I can only hope that this quote reigns true this year.

Because March definitely came in like a lion.

#MicroblogMonday #8 – Spring Fever

Ah. Spring. It’s right around the corner. Right? I’m done with winter. I’ve talked about far too many times in the last few weeks (you can read those here and here), and I just don’t want to talk about it anymore. Thankfully, today I’m not going too.

Spring fever hit yesterday. No, we didn’t have temps in the 50s. But they reached a high of 38 in my area, the sun was shining and warm, and the mountains of snow had a little melt. For us New Englanders, after being buried under feet and feet of snow and dealing with single digit temps, 38 feels like a heat wave.

As we were out running errands yesterday, we turned the heat down and cracked the windows as the car filled with the warmth from the sun. The fresh air, while still crisp, was rejuvenating. It provided me with just the right amount of Vitamin D (besides the kind I have to take) to get me ready for the week ahead.

It may be cold today, but for the first time in weeks, we don’t have any snow storms in the forecast, just a snow shower here and there, and while we might have record cold tomorrow, temperatures are starting to rise about 20.

There is a light at the end of the tunnel. Spring is coming.

#MicroblogMonday #7 – The Perks of Having Short Hair

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

Pardon my late post today! Since it’s a holiday, I’ve been out running errands and spending time with the fiance. But I’m now I’m home and catching up on the day.

So today’s #MicroblogMonday post. All about the perks of short hair. If you follow me on Instagram, then you know that I chopped off my hair this weekend. I had no idea it was a long as it was. I knew it was long, but not as long as what the before picture showed.

The Perks of Having Short HairUnsplash // Jeremy Cai

Normally I always regret cutting off my hair. And I start to question why I did it. But this time, I definitely didn’t. It was a welcome change. Something new in this seemingly endless winter. But in the two days I’ve had short hair, I’ve realized a few things.

  • I was constantly washing my hair to keep it manageable. Brushing it was a chore. Constant knots, snarls and tangles. I found on the weekends, I had to shower in the AM after sleeping, otherwise I looked like a crazed banshee. This morning, I got up, ran a brush through my hair, and volia, I could go out in public.
  • My waves are back. My long hair would get wavy, but it would take a lot of product for it to stay. Now, my waves stay with minimal product.
  • Wash and go is a thing again. I love being able to wash my hair, and being done. I love how swingy it is when it dries. I love how easy it is now.

Sure. I loved my long hair. But I love my short hair even more.

Five Things Friday {#3}

Friday is finally here! And since it’s been awhile, like since last June, I decided it would be a good day to jump back on the Five Things Friday bandwagon. My Five Things Friday are usually a mix of my random thoughts, products I love and things I found amusing. So kick back and enjoy!

This adorable camera lens mug.

You know your a #photographer when…. You drink your coffee out of a camera lens travel mug.

A photo posted by Eryn Carter (@itseryne) on

I’ve been eyeballing this camera lens travel mug for a long time, and my fiance bought it for me a couple weeks ago. The deal was if he bought it, I couldn’t stop to get coffee anymore. That hasn’t exactly happened yet, mainly because I love iced coffee, but when I bring it work, it’s my go-to mug for coffee or tea. It will most definitely be making many appearances during photo shoots this year. Let’s just hope I don’t mistake it for one of my lenses! The snow. Let’s just talk about the snow for another quick second. Even though I don’t even want to think about it anymore. Boston is BURIED. Literally. Every storm is now discussed in feet. Not inches. In fact, we have a storm coming tomorrow night that could drop another foot or more on us. We already have over 6 feet on the ground. And this is just in a 2-3 week time span. We’ve gotten more snow in the last few weeks, then we usually do in an entire winter.  I’m hoping that our winter will essentially only be this like 4 week period of blizzards. And then miraculously spring will arrive in March and we will have 50 degree weather. Because we’re going to need it soon for all of the snow to go away!

The struggles of losing weight.
You guys. I hate trying to lose weight. I’m just putting it out there. But I hate more? How much weight can fluctuate. I usually weigh in once a week for Weight Watchers. But I decided to weigh myself yesterday just to see how things were going. I was psyched. Down just over a pound. I weighed in this morning, and I had gained 2 from the day before. SERIOUSLY? Not cool body. Not cool. Anyways. Weigh in days are now on Thursdays, since that’s when my lowest weigh in seems to be. But still. Ugh. Being a woman… am I right?

This girl just being an unbelievable inspiration.
Jamie Brewer, best known for American Horror Story, just rocked the runway at New York Fashion Week. Like utterly owned it. And while doing so, became the first model with down syndrome to do so. But I don’t look at her and see Down Syndrome. I look at her and see a woman is chasing her dreams and succeeding in an dog eat dog industry, and not caring what anyone thinks of her. She is truly an inspiration to ALL women. I mean look at her up there. She’s GLOWING. And her model walk. Owned it!

Check out this great video that fellow model Alanna Raben took during the pre-show. This girl just oozes confidence. You go Jamie!

The Buzzfeed Obama video.
I mean… we’ve all done some of these things. At least once. Right? I mean… we’ve all done some of these things. At least once. Right?

And a bonus…

The long weekend.
It’s President’s Day weekend! Which means we have the day off on Monday. Anyone else? Anyone doing anything fun? It looks like we will be snowed in. Again. Not cool. Guess I’ll be kicking back with a book and my heated blanket. It’s President’s Day weekend! Which means we have the day off on Monday. Anyone else? Anyone doing anything fun? #MicroblogMonday #6 – Eternal Optimism

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

Eternal OptimismUnsplash//Alexandr Schwarz

The downfall of being an eternal optimist? Everyone always assumes you’re going to be happy and upbeat.

But in truth, sometimes I’m not. Sometimes I see life as a realist. Sometimes even a pessimist.

I have always called myself an eternal optimist. I see life through rose-colored glasses.

But if I’m having a bad day, I don’t want to fake happy. I want people to know that, for once, the eternal optimist isn’t seeing the sunny side.

It’s hard being an eternal optimist because people always assume that you’re going to write about something positive, when in reality, sometimes I just want to be negative and sarcastic.

Sometimes, I don’t want to be an eternal optimist at all. Sometimes I just want to be a realist. Being honest and sincere, without a burst of peppy filtered in.

I’ll always define myself as an eternal optimist, but sometimes, the eternal optimist just needs a day to see life through clear glasses. Just to keep things in perspective.

Do you ever feel this way?

Foto Friday #19 – Winter Wonderland

Well, my friends, Friday is finally here. It’s been a busy, long week. More snow. The blog outage. The cold.

Let’s just say I’m ready for spring.

But before that happens, I’m going to enjoy the beauty of the snow. Because there is something magical about those big snowflakes falling from the sky and sticking. Unless it’s a blizzard. There isn’t anything pretty about a blizzard.

Let’s begin shall we…

Barn 4 WM

My new camera had finally arrived. I couldn’t wait to get out there and play with it. Learn everything possible about it.

I was thrilled to hear snow was in the forecast for the next day. The first snow of the year. And I was going to be at my home away from home. The barn.

And it was on to seeing what I could capture.

I’ve always enjoyed the first snow of the year. Something about the way the snowflakes fly around and cover everything in a blanket of white. And this day was no exception. And I so happy to have my camera with me to capture it.

But let me be clear. I’m over winter. Just not the beauty of it.

#MicroblogMonday #5 – Winter Is Here!

Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is? Read the inaugural post which explains the idea and how you can participate too.

winter has arrivedUnsplash

Remember when I wrote about how it doesn’t feel like winter because we hadn’t gotten any snow?

Well, evidently Mother Nature is making up for lost time.

Beginning tonight and going right through Wednesday morning, we are getting a blizzard.

Yes. A blizzard. And not just any blizzard. Potentially one for the ages.

All of the news channels are saying it could be one of the worst winter storms our state has ever seen.

My area is looking at 24+ inches of snow. I was okay with the 6 inches we got on Saturday. It was lovely, and I enjoyed playing with new camera in it. But over two feet of snow? That’s a lot of snow.

I won’t lie. Part of me is really excited. Just like I get a little excited when we get a hurricane or a bad thunderstorm (does anyone else get like this?). I don’t really like bad weather, but there is just something about getting a really large scale storm. But then the other part of me kicks in and reminds excited me that this storm is going to be nasty. Not something to be excited about.

I mean, many news places are already calling this storm, “paralyzing”, “catastrophic”, and “life-threatening.”

So next time I question winter, or Mother Nature, remind me of this. Because now I’m ready for winter to just go away.
